LMHCA
Jon Leong
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and follower of Christ, I believe healing happens when we bring our whole selves—mind, body, and spirit—into the therapeutic process. Whether you're wrestling with anxiety, navigating difficult relationships, or feeling stuck in patterns you can't explain, you don't have to figure it out alone.
My approach integrates evidence-based therapy (CBT, Emotion-Focused
Therapy, Attachment work) with biblical wisdom and the Holy Spirit's
guidance—for clients who want their faith to inform their healing
journey. I also bring a unique perspective as someone raised in
Hawaii's collective culture, now living in the Pacific Northwest,
which helps me understand how cultural background shapes our
relationships and mental health.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Northwest University in Kirkland, WA. Before this, I completed nine years of experience participating and leading in a church internship and theological training school. I am currently working towards an LMHC license in WA state.
During my studies at NU, I interned as a therapist at Meier Clinics in Bothell where I focused on working with people with acute issues with bipolar, personality disorders, anxiety, depression, spiritual abuse, OCD, and family relationships while integrating psycho-educational materials from Dr. Henry Cloud. While I was there, I worked primarily with adults and saw some adolescents as young as 14.
AREAS OF FOCUS
WHAT MAKES MY WORK DIFFERENT:
Personality & Therapy: I use MBTI and other personality assessments to accelerate insight and growth (most therapists skip this)
Boundary Specialists: I excel at helping people establish healthy boundaries with family, work, and themselves
Adult Conversations: I work best with clients 14+ who are ready for direct, meaningful dialogue
Real Integration: Scripture and prayer when wanted; never forced
Anxiety & worry that won't quit
Marriage, premarital, and family conflict
Boundary work in individuals and families
Faith transitions and spiritual integration
Cross-cultural relationship challenges
ABOUT ME
I am a husband, father, musician, personality hobbyist, food connoisseur, sci-fi nerd, and transplanted Hawaii-born native. When I’m not at the office, my time is spent with my wife and daughter playing at the park, cooking, watching movies, spending time with friends, and having deep conversations.
When it comes to counseling, I have an eclectic style that has developed from growing up as a pastor’s kid in the church coupled with my education as a therapist. I believe in working towards authentic interactions in counseling and that, with help from Scripture and the Holy Spirit, people can thrive in a therapeutic relationship.
