As Masters-level clinicians, some insurance companies will reimburse for counseling services.  Clients will need to determine eligibility with their individual carriers.

Yes, we can!  You will still need to confirm that your HSA provider has included counseling as an eligible health cost (i.e. some providers may include psychiatric care but not counseling).

if i'm not a christian, should I see a christian counselor?

You do NOT need to be a Christian to begin counseling.  We've both spent years helping others and reading the Bible with those who are not yet Christians.  New Ground Counseling actually began with multiple clients who did not consider themselves persons of faith.  If you genuinely desire help and wonder what God would say about your situation, go for it.

Why is the bible such a big part of counseling?

We walk alongside clients as we learn how to read Scripture together.  We've read the Bible with skeptics, agnostics, and students from other faiths.  We believe that the Bible is from God, authoritative, powerful, and living.  Additionally, we believe that the Bible offers experiential evidence for itself.  That is, if we approach the Bible with sincerity (with open heart and minds) we experience the following:

  1. The Bible is gripping. The Bible discerns what you are thinking and feeling. When you pick it up with a genuine desire to hear from God, it will grip you.

  2. The Bible is comforting. In my years of counseling, I have seen people facing difficult surgeries, mothers who lost children, young men who were devastated by addiction, and more. And I have heard these people tell of the comfort, strength, and peace beyond comprehension they found in God’s Word.

  3. The Bible is convicting. The Bible shows us the shadows in our souls. It allows us to honestly see our hurts and confess them as well as our offenses, and our weaknesses.

  4. The Bible is freeing. The Bible has radical claims for change, which promise to transform us from the inside out, if we would believe what it says. If, in this moment, you are struggling under the weight of some burden you can’t shake or some behavior you can’t break, the Bible is for you, and it’s for me.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I'm done with counseling?

Throughout sessions and at the end of counseling, we emphasize that clients find a local church to invest in.  The church is, by Jesus’ definition, a change-agent that puts skin and bones on words like love, comfort, encouragement, brotherhood, and freedom.  Counseling is a temporary pit stop.  Community in the church is a life-long gift.
